Underground Railroad Fakebook Assignment

To help you remember some of the important people in this unit, you are going to use Fakebook to create a fake Facebook page for one of the historical people listed in your terms list. You need to have a profile picture, a cover photo, date of birth, family information for your person. In addition, you need to have at least six friends for your person. You will be assigned one of the people by picking from the hat in class. Some people may have the same person but that is OK, as what you bring to the assignment will be different than another student. Also, you need to have at least three posts on your person's page. These can be from friends of your person or from the person to the world. Also, you need to have at least one comment for every post. If you want to include other blocks such as likes, or other things you might find on the real Facebook, you can earn extra credit. This assignment is fun but requires some research and time. Please go to the helpful links on the sidebar and click on fakebook. If you forget how we learned to do fakebook, please view the tutorial on the page. Once you have saved your page, please paste the link in the comments section. Also, you need to comment on one of your classmates' fakebook pages in the comments section of this assignment. Tell about what you liked, what you learned, what you would improve, etc. This assignment is due January 21.

Underground Railroad Simulation Assignment

We will be studying the Underground Railroad and the Abolitionist movement in the United States to bring an end to slavery. To help preview this unit, you will engage in a simulation of a person's escape from slavery to the North. Go to www.mission-us.com and choose mission 2. The website is listed in the helpful links section on the sidebar of this blog. I want you to view the trailer of the mission before starting the simulation, as well as looking at the cast of characters. Listen to the what each cast member has to say. Some of the cast members are real historical figures. When you are finished with the simulation, I want you to try the Think Fast about the Past game. Then, I want you to think about what happened to those characters at the end of your simulation. Write out a script and create a Blabber of the character using historical pictures, or take a picture of yourself as the character and create a Blabber. Your script should be at least 2 minutes long. Remember to go to blabberize.com to complete the Blabber. Post a link to your Blabber as well as your score from the Think Fast about the Past game in the comments, and let me know what you thought of the simulation as well. This assignment is due on January 7, 2014.
